Healthy Living: My “Choose You” Update and a Giveaway.

Posted by Catherine Morgan on May 27, 2010

Have you joined the Choose You Movement yet?  It’s a great way to get motivated to make healthy life changes.  Even though it’s through the American Cancer Society, it’s really for anyone, and anyone suffering with chronic illness could really benefit from this program.

With that said…I’m not only participating in the program, I am also helping to promote it as a blogger on their Choose You Blog.  Here’s my latest post with a giveaway…

An Update and a Giveaway…My very first giveaway.

I’m happy to report that even with additional temptations this weekend [It was my mother's birthday and we got her an ice-cream cake, chocolate volcano cake, and cheese cake.] I was still successful in my goal to not eat sugar. It actually wasn’t hard at all to resist, I think because it’s been over two weeks, I’m just not craving the sugar the way I normally do. So that’s a plus!

Off topic: Do you want to see the Birthday Dance of my mother that I made with the American Cancer Society’s new dance application? Here’s the link – Frances Ellen Disco Dancing (Feel free to tease her about it in comments, she loves all the attention).

OK, back to my post.

Since I was so successful with my first (two week) commitment, I decided to make a longer and more difficult commitment next. For the next six weeks I will be continuing to avoid sugar, but I will also eliminate high fat/calorie snacks and junk food, and lose 5 pounds.

That’s a lot…But you think I can do it, right?

So that’s my new commitment. Now for the giveaway.

Since I know my Choose You Commitment is going to get more and more difficult to stick with, I wanted to do something to increase my online support. It may sound silly, but I love getting comments of support and tips from my readers. And the more feedback I get, the more encouraged I get. So I asked the folks at the American Cancer Society if I could do a giveaway. Not only did they say yes, but they agreed to donate a Choose You Stainless Water Bottle and a Choose You Lapel Pin.

All you have to do is go to MY CHOOSE YOU BLOG POST and leave a comment on the post and you will be entered to win (I’ll announce the winner when I post next Tuesday). Any comment will do, but like I said in my first post I could use all the support I can get.

I’m so glad you chose to give away a stainless steel water bottle. Plastic is toxic and it definitely doesn’t help CFS! A foremost expert on CFS, Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, has just put out a new book called Beat Sugar Addiction Now: http://endfatigue.com/. It is written in a simple style and outlines his easy to follow, multi-step plan. He begins by identifying 4 main types of sugar addicts and then outlines a specific plan for each type of addict to follow. He explains how sugar plays into the problems suffered by each kind of addict and goes into detail when clearly and succinctly explaining how to beat the cravings. While Teitelbaum does not provide recipes or meal plans, he does give guidelines for healthy eating and lists of recommended foods as well as the glycemic index for many common foods. This book would probably be helpful not only to people attempting to lose weight, but also to those with illnesses such as Type II Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, just to name a few. Though Teitelbaum is a medical doctor and is clearly coming from a medical background, he writes in layman’s terms and creates a book that will be easily understood by most people.

Interesting opinion. Before any activity we must give importance to the health care. Treatment of cancer should be difficult and costly. Thank you for showing this valuable information.

  5. Chronic pain is the name given to pain which persists for six months or more. the causes could range from an injury, arthritis, debilitating and terminal diseases like cancer. Chronic pain is one of the terrors to treat, as it is very difficult to provide total pain relief and chronic pain management is a very expensive affair. FindRXonline in his blog mentions that his treatment is with prescription drug coverage among the best-known and prescribed by doctors are vicodin, lortab, or hydrocodone, but we must always be prevented due to side effects.
